INVITATION TO THE
INTERNATIONAL ANTIPROHIBITIONIST MEETING,
15/16 OCTOBER, EP BRUSSELS

Brussels - New York, 25 September 2002

Dear friend,

We write to invite you to the meeting to be held at the European Parliament in Brussels on 15 and 16 October 2002, organised by the International Antiprohibitionist League (IAL), the Parliamentarians for Antiprohibitionist Action (PAA) and the Transnational Radical Party (TRP). We are delighted to inform you that the PAA network has now reached 52 members from various countries and virtually all political backgrounds.

The primary objective of this Seminar/Assembly will be the discussion and preparation of concrete actions to demonstrate the failures of prohibition and to promote the antiprohibition alternative. One of the reasons why we decided to hold the Meeting is the fact that the UN review conference on drug policies will be convened in March 2003 in Vienna. We are convinced that all those who, over the past years, have denounced the failures of the War on Drugs should now get together to coordinate their activities and produce concrete proposals.

These proposals should trigger a wide range of rational and effective reforms of drug laws. Over the last several years, we have seen interesting and encouraging developments in various countries, but they have remained too sporadic and just at a local level, and they do not imply the legalization of drugs. We believe that the time has come to promote drug regulation through an antiprohibitionist reform of the UN Conventions.

George Estievenart (EMCDDA Executive Director), Carla Rossi (Professor, Rome), Ernest Drucker (Professor, New York) Fabrizio Starace (Professor, Naples) are among the experts that have already announced their participation, along with other legislators from national and European Parliament.
